Manager, Content Accounting

The Spotify Content Accounting team is looking for a Manager to support the global team, with a focus on US Publishing royalties.  The candidate will work cross-functionally with legal, licensing, technical accounting, and engineering teams to ensure Spotify is compliant with all current and future regulations within the US. The successful candidate will also be at the forefront of any US based publishing initiatives.  The ideal candidate will have at least 8 years experience within financial controlling in the entertainment, media, and/or music industry. The position is based in New York City.

What you will do:

  • Manage accounting specific terms on behalf of Content Accounting for US publishing
  • Interpret and analyze financial information to recommend or develop efficient use of resources and procedures, provide strategic recommendations and maintain solutions to business and financial problems
  • Review of monthly account reconciliations and flux analysis and assist in global monthly close process
  • Help lead the implementation of best practices in the content team to scale our business to support the global expansion plans
  • Develop and/or refine content accounting processes and procedures
  • Support external, 3rd party, and internal audit requirements related to specific areas of responsibility
  • Work cross functionally with Technical Accounting, Legal, Licensing, Business Operations, AP, FP&A, IT, Tax and various business owners on policies, processes, programs, and help drive key system initiatives and improvements
  • Review, manage, and approve invoices to ensure proper payments are being made to participants
  • Mentor and coach direct reports
  • Other responsibilities include but not limited to participate in special projects, system enhancements or ad hoc analyses as assigned
  • Occasional travel may be required

Who you are:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting with CPA or CA preferred
  • Minimum of 8 years in a similar accounting role within the media, entertainment, or music industry
  • Experience within financial controlling in a content driven industry
  • Experience with major ERP system required (Oracle, SAP or Netsuite)
  • Excellent time and self-management skills, ability to prioritize and multitask to meet deadlines required
  • Previous people management experience
  • Makes sound decisions on routine matters in support of immediate work group’s goals
  • Strong excel and/or google sheets skills
  • Comfortable working in a fast paced and constantly changing environment
  • Previous experience of IFRS, US GAAP and/or SOX
